Local songwriter/producer, Almost Owen, has been quietly grinding it out, waiting for his moment.

From 2013 to 2014, he worked as a music teacher in India. Since he has moved back to the US, the 26-year-old has played nearly 500 shows. He's toured massive music festivals in Panama, theaters in China and India, intimate sets and UNESCO in France, and beer soaked clubs in his native Boston. In addition, he has written and produced songs for other artists, taking time to hone in on his own sound and message. Gearing up to release his own projects, Almost Owen is ready to show everyone exactly who he is.

Q+A with Almost Owen:

Bri | How did it feel to create a music video for "What You Do to Me"?
Almost Owen | It felt good! "What You Do To Me" is a high energy song that I wrote while staying in LA with my buddy Julian. To be honest, it was kind of a joke at first - writing about an objectively weird set of events that went down the last time I had come into LAX.

Converse was kind enough to give us a day of studio time at their spot in Boston. I got my band together and we filmed performances of two songs. The next song "Tell Me What You Want" features four of my favorite singers in Boston, and will be out July, 11.

B | When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
AO | I had an instinct to make music from before I started speaking - earlier than I can remember. As strange as it sounds, I've always had a sense that music chose me, and not the other way around.

When I was 12 years old, I went to Wallys Jazz Cafe in Boston's South End to see a band play. I had been to a lot of amazing shows before that-- thanks to my pops (an avid music fan who used to work at the Filmore East). This, however, was completely different. I got called up to play with these guys, who for all I knew were total rockstars.

From that moment on, I knew that more than just being a guy who makes music, I wanted to shape my life around it.

B | Who are your musical influences/icons?
AO | So many! Growing up I was obsessed with Bob Dylan, The Band, and the Beatles. I was also crazy about Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.

More recently, I've been listening to a lot of Anderson. Paak (gotta show love to drummers who sing), and am lucky to have a bunch of contemporaries like Nick Hakim, Daywave, and Thirdstory that are totally killing it right now and inspire the hell out of me.

B | How many instruments can you play?
AO | I'm first and foremost a singer and songwriter. I also worked for years as a professional drummer.

I also play a bit of piano and guitar when pressed.

B | Where do you see Almost Owen in 5 years?
AO | MSG. I'm going for world domination here.

But seriously, I already get to do my favorite thing - make people happy with music. I just want to keep growing my platform to write, release, and perform more and better music for my fans.
