Crate Revamp

My apartment is a work in progress. Meaning it is no where close to being furbished with furniture or anything really. I have a few furniture pieces, but it's definitely a slow process.

I found this lovely crate at my local Goodwill shop. I wasn't sure what I could do with it at first, so I walked around, but it was stuck in the back of my mind. I really wanted this crate. So I racked my brain of what I could do with it. Then it hit me, I could repurpose it and hang it up in my apartment. I was sold on my idea and decided to get it. It didn't have a price when I found it, so I wasn't sure how much it would be, but I knew it couldn't be THAT much. I was at Goodwill.. So, I found some other things to get for my apartment while I was there, then went to check out. The cashier asked if there was a price for it and I said I didn't see one, so she looked at it then said: "Ummmm, I'm going to charge you $2.99." I couldn't argue with that price, and I was so happy that I was getting it for so cheap. I thought I was going to be paying closer to 10 bucks for it.

Now it was time for the "fun" part - cleaning up the box so I can paint it. It had some kind of wallpaper material in the crate. So, I had to peal all of that off of the box. Some was easy to peal off because it looked really old, so I didn't have to tug so hard, but other parts seemed impossible to get off. But with enough tugging and pulling, I was able to take it off. The crate was also dusty and had cobwebs in it [so gross], so I had to clean those out. That was not my favorite part. I hate spiders, so having to deal with the cleaning of the webs gives me the heeby jeebies. Once I had it cleaned up, I bought some paints and went to town on painting it. I decided that I wanted the outside to be black with a bright color in the inside. First I painted the whole crate white to primer it.

TOO MANY DECISIONS. I bought pink and blue because I couldn't decide between the two. I decided to paint the outside first, and then decide on which color to paint inside once I was ready to paint that part of the crate.

I decided to paint the inside of the crate pink. I thought it would be nice to have a bright pink popping out.

I think the crate ended up coming out really nice. Now the next task is to hang it on my wall. Slowly but surely, my apartment is coming together!
